The Best Beef and Broccoli recipe, ever!!

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

What’s better than seven minute abs, six minute abs!

What’s better than this beef and broccoli? Seconds! Thirds!

If you don’t have the rice, it’s almost keto. It’s not. Hoisin sauce and cornstarch ruin that for you, but, almost.

I started experimenting a few years back, and have achieved perfection. This is not to imitate your favorite Chinese restaurant’s number 69, beef and broccoli, but to make a quintessential, irresistible, can’t stop eating it, beef and broccoli. This is it. The only way to make it better is to sprinkle crack cocaine on it and have it fed to you by nineteen year old, naked virgins while they complement you on your awesomeness. – ok - that’s sexist, if you are a lady, imagine young half naked nineteen year old boys cleaning your house. This dish is a legitimate anti-depressant for all genders.

The recipe is very simple. It uses quality ingredients, and you can replace the beef with chicken or tofu if you want.

I’ve done this with all types of beef, including filet mignon. Flank steak is probably the best. Beef is super expensive right now so I buy all of my beef at Costco. Remember, you are shredding it, so any cut of less expensive beef is probably ok as long as it is not too fatty. You can even get away with using the pre-shredded beef used for cheese steaks.

If you use Chicken, I recommend using tenders. I bet it’s good with pork or turkey.

Ingredients:

1 – 1.5 LBS Flank steak, shredded

4 bunches of Broccolini or Chinese Broccoli if available

4 oz Kikkoman style soy sauce – can be Tamari

4 oz Hoisin sauce

5 oz water

1 table spoon corn starch dissolved in 2 oz water

Sesame oil

Peanut oil

Sesame seeds

Garlic powder

Onion powder

Meat tenderizer (optional) – this is what MSG is used for

Fresh black pepper

Bring a stock pot of water to the boil

Plunge the broccoli into the boiling water for one minute and 30 seconds. Yes a minute and a half, and then remove it promptly. When it cools, cut it into bite sized pieces. Unless you are a masochist, then please handle it while it is hot.

Measure out the hoisin sauce, corn starch, and soy sauce

Slice the flank steak very thin almost like shredding it.

Heat your pan and add a bit of peanut oil and sesame oil.

Pan fry the meat in batches. Season with onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and tenderizer if you are using it. MSG has been used for thousands of years. If you use it responsibly and sparingly, you should be ok.

After the last batch of meat has browned, add all of the meat back to the pan.

Add the soy sauce, water, and hoisin sauce. When it starts to simmer, add the cornstarch that is dissolved in the water. Stir it up.

As it starts to thicken, add the broccoli and mix well.

Take it off the flame and top with sesame seeds.

Serve over rice, or have it without any starch.

See if you can stop eating it after one serving. Bet you can't.
