TextBook Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Written February 2023

Funny thing, I don’t need to write a review of this wine as it has already been written on the back label, TextBook style.

At $26.99, this fits into my once per month category, and I would certainly make this purchase again. But But But, it was $26.99 at Costco, so maybe higher elsewhere.

If you read the back label, you can taste the blackberry, plum and spice.

Let’s take it a step further, it is a very well structured wine with classic Napa valley Cabernet characteristics. It is however a more subtle wine, it’s like the smart guy in the room that keeps his mouth shut, but when he does talk, you know that he’s the smart guy.

The nose is not bursting with ripe fruit, but you can smell the berries and a hint of dried fruit followed by a subtle dose of alcohol.

On the palate, you get exactly what is described on the back label, but the finish is medium with well-balanced acidity and tannins.

If you want a wine that pairs well and does not become the star of the show, then this is your wine. It’s like a great drummer. A great drummer isn’t the show boater, but rather the one that keep perfect time and plays the song flawlessly.

St. Helena is famous for volcanic springs and is one of the warmer regions of Napa which lends to the character of the grapes grown here. The Cabernet Sauvignon is among the best in the world in St. Helena, and it is classic TextBook in this wine.
