Sticks & Stones Red Blend 2020

Written April 2023

This wine is from the Península de Setúbal in Portugal, which looks like a very interesting place.

It’s about the same longitude as Bodega Bay, CA, (Sonoma County), but a peninsula just south of Lisbon, I imagine the climate is perfect.

The region is mostly known for muscat and muscatel, but this is a red wine and the grapes are not listed on the bottle.

I’d have to guess that it is a blend of grapes like Castelão Francês, Aragonês, Tinto Cão, which I know nothing about, except that for $9.99 at Gary’s, this wine is a treasure.

Its deep ruby color opens to tobacco on the nose. Bright ripe fruit up front cherries, strawberries, raisins, it's jammy.

Medium finish with very light tannins, it’s easy to fall in love with this wine.

I’ll be going back ASAP to pick up a few more bottles.

That said, I’m itching to taste the muscatel and muscat from that region.
