Standing Goat 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles – Written July 24, 2022
Paso Robles is starting to become a theme for me with regard to Cabernet Sauvignon.
I always enjoyed J Lohr Cabernet which happens to be from Paso Robles, and DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon is among my favorites.
Standing Goat had good reviews at Stu Leonard’s which is typically a good indicator.
At $12.98 per bottle, this could easily become a number one pick for weekend wine, and if it was a particularly good week day, every day wine. Do I need to explain how a week day becomes a particularly good week day?
The character of this wine is very similar to DAOU, though less robust and lighter in style which makes me want to say that I could drink it like a Pinot Noir, or Zinfandel with regard to food pairings.
So definitely nice upfront fruit, on the palate. A little brandy in the nose, which I found surprising, and hints of strawberries.
I’d have it with the salmon or seared scallops or of course steak, or barbeque. Yes Seared scallops can stand up this wine.
This is perhaps the best find this year, (as of this writing), and a great value.
On the second image, you can see where I wrote the place and price. This way I have it handy when I open the bottle
I think this is the one that I'll be buying by the case
