Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House Lot 1981

Updated: Jun 22, 2022

The wine list at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House had a favorite of mine at a great price. DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles is what I ordered, but Mike, the waiter told me that the Lot 1981 Reserve is a special bottling a Duck Horn Cabernet Sauvignon for Del Frisco’s.

As it was a special occasion, I opted for the Lot 1981

Honestly, I would have preferred the DAOU, but had to taste Lot 1981 since you can’t buy it at the local wine shop.

The Lot 1981 at six years old, was probably too young to open. It was great, but could have used a few years.

As I’m looking at the wine, it is super deep dark purple with very little purple lightening around the edges. The color is flawless.

The nose is inviting and reserved. There are no overpowering characteristics, it’s all subtle.

On the palate the wine is huge with a mixture of fresh and dried fruits and then perfectly balanced acid and tannin with a luscious long finish.

This wine is perfect for a steak house, especially if you indulge in cuts that have some fat.

All in all, a very elegant wine that will be better in a few years, if you can get it.

There was about a glass left in the bottle after dinner, no way I was leaving it behind.

I guess I need to get my hands on a DAOU and give it a proper review
