DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 from Paso Robles

DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 from Paso Robles – Written June 2022

Time to talk about one of my favorite wines. This wine crosses the line between a great once a month wine and special occasion wine.

At four years old, you could age it, but why? It is a huge lively robust Cabernet on the nose and on the palate.

I could go so far as to say, it makes me feel like a kid again.

What do I mean by that?

It’s just jammy and makes you feel good with every sip. Lots of up front ripe fruit that immediately presents dried and plums and raisins. The tannis kick in almost immediately, but they don’t overpower the initial mouth feel and actually seem to prolong the finish. Sure there is acid, but you don't notice it at all because the jamminess takes you to your childhood.

At around $25 this is a steal. Had it with dry aged rib-eye steaks at home. That and a surprise visit from my son, made it a perfect Father’s day.

Del Frisco’s has it on the menu at around $70 which is a great deal for a steak house.

Costco had splits for a while which was an awesome deal. Looking forward to them bringing that back.

I love many wines, but if I was forced to never have another but this, it would not be terrible.
