Chateau Greysac 2018

Updated: Apr 2

Written March 10, 2024

It has been more than 15 years since I’ve had the pleasure of this wine.  Chateau Greysac from the Medoc region of Bordeaux is one of the true bargains of the region.

I used to purchase this wine at Bottle King for about $15 back in the 1990s, today you can get it Gary’s for $21.99

The price tag makes it once per week wine for me, but it is a treat.

I love big and bold, but I also enjoy subtle, but only with regard to flavor, otherwise, I don’t do subtle.

The breakdown on the back label is 65% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, which makes it a classic claret.

Vintage 2018, it is 6 years old already, and probably can age you want to, but I say drink it now!

It is a medium bodied wine with a beautiful ruby color and no signs of age in the color.  A welcoming nose that does not put anything specific upfront other than you know you want to taste it.

Soft and full mouth feel with hints of vanillin and maybe some licorice?  A wave of acidity that is immediately quelled by soft tannins and a medium to long finish.

This is a perfect steakhouse wine if you are not in the mood for big and bold.  I actually had it with home smoked wild caught sockeye salmon, and it worked.

This is a chill on a Sunday afternoon with a hard cheese and Sade on tunes kind of wine as well.

Love love love it.

The late great Park & Orchard restaurant used to serve this by the glass for about $6 per glass.  A great deal
