If I’m being honest, I prefer Malbec as part of a blend as in a claret from Bordeaux or a similar red blend from California.
Almost all Malbec that I find locally are from Argentina, but I have found some nice Malbec from Cahors France.
This is the first time trying this particular bottle, and I must say, a wonderful surprise. It has the up-front fruit that you would expect from an Argentinian Malbec which made it more exciting for me.
It matches the published flavor profile with blackberry, vanillin, and leather. I think we paid about $16 for this bottle, and I would happily make the purchase again.
It was wine and cheese night again and we paired this with a goat cheese from Spain.
We also did a Connecticut pizza run in the same weekend and brought back leftovers from Frank Pepe, Sally’s, and Modern APizza. And you guessed it, this is a perfect pizza wine.
The Coal Burning Oven at Frank Pepe dates back to the 1800s. We need coal!! This is a necessary carbon emission.
Sally's APizza - Richard was nice enough to take a photo with me
It's funny that there are Sally's lovers and Frank Pepe lovers, they're all family. And Oh by the way, it's Sal, they called him Sally as a proper goumba name.
Definitely worth the trip just to try something different.
